What is the difference between period and bladder leaks?
Speed – Bladder fluids flow as fast as your tap runs, so at this rate, it only takes 2-3 seconds to match the loss of an entire period.
Viscosity – Water always wants to find the lowest level and can leak through a pinhole. Menstrual flow is thicker, slower and blood will coagulate and eventually dry.
Volume – Our bladder holds 500ml (a pint) and we usually feel the need to wee when our bladder has 150-250 ml of urine in it. This is 25 times more liquid than an entire period day.
Position – We cannot hold in our period because wee and period blood do not exit the body from the same place – urine exits from the urethra, which is further forward.
